Science on a Sphere
It's like looking at Earth and the other planets from space!
The Science on a Sphere (SOS) exhibit, located in the Exhibit Hall, is an educational tool to help illustrate Earth system and planetary science to people of all ages. It utilizes advanced media projection technology developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Rotating programs can be seen throughout the day.
This room-sized, global display system uses computers and video projectors to display planetary data onto a six-foot-diameter sphere, creating a giant animated globe. Animated images of atmospheric storms, climate change, ocean temperature, and planetary surfaces can be displayed on the sphere accompanied by audio narration or a live presenter.
‘Imiloa is part of a consortium of museums which hosts SOS exhibits, sharing programs and working to utilize this unique exhibit. There are over 40 SOS exhibits in the U.S. and internationally. For more information on Science on a Sphere click here.
